About Stephanie, the owner/dyer of Asylum Fibers:

I was born and raised in a small town in central Maine, where most of my family still resides. My roots as a dyer begin there, in Maine, although I'm now living in Connecticut. I get my love for crafts from my mom, who taught me to sew, knit, crochet, and so much more from a young age, my work ethic from my dad, who has made me into my very own "handy woman", and my entrepreneurial spirit from my grandfather, who successfully opened and ran an autoshop without even a high school diploma.
Before Asylum Fibers was launched in February of 2017, I pursued my Masters in Opera Performance at Yale School of Music. After completing the program, I moved to NYC, where I lived for over 10 years, and where Asylum Fibers was born. These were the years when I first became engrossed in the fiber community, attending my first Rhinebeck and VKL, and meeting so many amazing designers and makers. In 2022 I moved to Connecticut where the lower level of my home has become a much more suitable dye studio than the one that had previously taken over my Queens apartment. ;-)
I now perform with Floydian Trip (we're a Pink Floyd tribute band), travelling to theaters across the Northeast. I still work full-time in HR & Compliance in Manhattan and dye yarn with every free moment I find. My schedule is as crazy as it sounds, but this small business isn't going anywhere. Color fuels joy!
