It's that time of year again, where we bring you the ultimate Sweater Workshop for beginners! Hilary is excited to teach this workshop in a four-session format over the first two months of 2026. We will begin on Saturday, January 10th at 3pm and meet every other weekend through February 21st.
This class requires proficiency in the basics of knitting including the knit and purl stitches, casting on and binding off.
What you will learn here:
• knitting a gauge swatch, blocking it, and how to use it
• how to understand ease
• top down sweater construction
• knitting in the round
• double point, FlexiFlip or magic loop sleeve construction
• increases and decreases
• picking up stitches
What you will need:
• your yarn, needles & pattern, of course!
• stitch markers
• scissors
• darning needle for weaving in ends
You can choose from two patterns for this workshop. Either one of these is perfect for you if you are ready to tackle top-down sweater knitting for the first time!
Purls of Wisdom from The Fibre Co. You can make it in one solid color, or up to four different colors. We've also seen some cool two-color versions.
Yarn recommendation: &Make Aran (pattern is free with your yarn purchase)
Stockinette Beginner Raglan LITE by the fabulous Chantal Miyagishima of Knitatude. This one is great in one color, but if you want to play with stripes, that's also an option! Hilary will be making one of these in stripes and will be happy to show you what your options are and how to do it.
Yarn recommendations: Movers & Makers Wicker Park Worsted, Malabrigo Rios, Woolstok Worsted or Worsted Large, Fuzz Family Auntie Afghan, or The Wandering Flock Fluff if you are feeling a litte more adventurous! We highly recommend swatching with one skein before winding the rest of your yarn.
This pattern is available here and must be purchased separately.
This class will be small and each participant will get very specialized attention. Hilary will also be sharing all of her tips and tricks from over a decade of garment knitting experience. Please make sure all of the dates work for you as there will not be make-ups for this workshop. Click on either sweater option above to get more details. After you register for the class, we will reach out to see which sweater you want to make and help you get prepared for the first day of class.
We're going to have a great time, and you'll leave this workshop with the skills you need to tackle many other projects with the skills you've learned!
Classes are for adults and young adults aged 16 years or older.
Please note that we have a one-week rescheduling policy and that classes and workshops are non-refundable. We will happily reschedule you for another class or allot store credit if we are notified of any conflict at least one week in advance.
We cannot guarantee make-ups for no-shows or cancellations within one week. Classes with low attendance may be cancelled and rescheduled in which case, we will offer a credit for a future class or a full refund.
