English paper piecing, or EPP for short, came about in the 18th century, and its popularity has ebbed and flowed throughout history since. In particular, it was a useful craft for using up small amounts of fabric at a time for quilting in times of scarcity. Nowadays, it's a relaxing method of slow sewing that's portable, and results in precise piecing.

If you're comfortable with sewing by hand and machine, then this workshop will be a breeze! The coasters and mug rugs students will be making will be hand pieced and then finished up on provided sewing machines.

You can definitely raid your fabric stash for this one, and you likely already have a lot of the other supplies you'll need. Anything you don't have will always be available for purchase here before the class. Paper hexagon pieces (1" & 1.5"), batting, and washable glue for basting will be provided for all students.

Here is what you'll need to bring with you:

Fabric

• 7 - 10 fabric scraps in dimensions of at least 2.5" x 2.5" or 4" x 4" (all 7/10 must be the same size, so please choose one)

• one single piece of backing fabric at least 8" x 11"

Needles

• any small hand sewing needle (for thread basting)

• thin needle for piecing

Thread

• old, ends of spools/bobbins, that contrast with the chosen fabric (for easy-to-see thread basting)

• 1 matching or neutral spool of thread for piecing

Other Supplies

• thimble

• thread snips & fabric scissors

• pins

• heat erasable pen/marker

Optional but Helpful Supplies

• SewTites

• small needle minder

Classes are for adults and young adults aged 16 years or older.

Please note that we have a one-week rescheduling policy and that classes and workshops are non-refundable. We will happily reschedule you for another class or allot store credit if we are notified of any conflict at least one week in advance.

We cannot guarantee make-ups for no-shows or cancellations within one week. Classes with low attendance may be cancelled and rescheduled in which case, we will offer a credit for a future class or a full refund.
