It's that time of year again, where we bring you the ultimate Sweater Workshop for beginners! Hilary is excited to teach this workshop in a six-session format over the first three months of 2025. We will begin on Saturday, January 11th at 12:30pm and meet every other weekend through March 22nd.
Please note that this class does require proficiency in the basics of knitting including the knit and purl stitches, casting on and binding off.
You can choose from two patterns for this workshop:
Top-Down Sweater Option
Purls of Wisdom from The Fibre Co. is perfect for you if you are ready to tackle top-down sweater knitting for the first time. You can make it in one solid color or up to four different colors. Making this sweater in this workshop will teach you:
• knitting a gauge swatch, blocking it, and how to use it
• how to understand ease
• top down sweater construction
• knitting in the round
• double point, FlexiFlip or magic loop sleeve construction
• increases and decreases
• picking up stitches
You'll leave this workshop with the skills you need to tackle many other projects with the skills you've learned!
Bottom-Up Cardigan Option
The Rewind Cardy is a super versatile drop-shoulder cardigan that features chunky ribbed borders, two pockets on the front and an all-over stockinette stitch. For someone wanting to knit their first cardigan, this is the perfect project. You can make it in one color or learn how to color block. Making this sweater in this workshop will teach you:
• knitting a gauge swatch, blocking it, and how to use it
• how to understand ease
• top down sweater construction
• double point, FlexiFlip or magic loop sleeve construction
• increases and decreases
• picking up stitches
• three needle bind-off
• creating buttonholes
• short rows
You'll leave this workshop with the skills you need to tackle many other projects with the skills you've learned!
This class will be small and each participant will get very specialized attention. Hilary will also be sharing all of her tips and tricks from over a decade of garment knitting experience. Please make sure all of the dates work for you as there will not be make-ups for this workshop. Click on either sweater option above to get more details. The pattern you choose is included with your purchase of The Fiber Co. &Make Aran, which we highly recommend. It's soft, very wearable, and comes in so many great colors! After you register for the class, we will reach out to see which sweater you want to make and help you get prepared for the first day of class.
